The refreshing welcome of a new borehole at the Parukabad Primary School triggered emotions of joy for the pupils and the residents of Glendale Valley last Monday.

Ballito Lifestyle Centre Spar owner, Paul Renken handed over the R84 000 borehole, which was sponsored by the Spar Group in partnership with Islamic Relief South Africa, an international NGO that implemented the project.

“A fresh supply of clean drinking water will enhance learning capacity and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks in the community,” said IRSA KZN regional head Shiraz Ismail.

As much as the borehole will benefit the school pupils, the residents around the school will also be able to use it according to Iqbal Khan, who had volunteered with IRSA, KZN to raise funds for the 18 boreholes that need to be donated around the province.

“We had already raised funding for 16 boreholes and we still need to raise funds for two more,” said Khan.

He said the schools were chosen based on an assessment done to see if there was enough water in that area.
