Ten guns recovered in Maphumulo

Two people were arrested and ten illegal guns were recently found at Mambulu area in Maphumulo.

Police conducted a stop and search on the roads and homesteads looking for unlicensed firearms and found the two double barrel shotguns, a 303 rifle, a homemade rifle, 38 revolver and ammunition.

A man wanted in connection with four business robberies was also arrested.

“The availability of the Oryx helicopter from the South African Defence Force help to get to the areas which could not be reached by vehicle,” said KZN police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Thulani Zwane.

Some of the guns that were found in Maphumulo.

“This helped a lot as police managed to get another five unlicensed firearms which included a shotgun, three 9mm pistols and a 38 pistol and rounds of ammunition.

“A 62-year-old man who was in possession of a shotgun and a 9mm pistol was arrested. The arrested suspect have appeared at the Kranskop Magistrates Court.”

The KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, major general Bheki Langa praised the police who worked in a dangerous and mountainous area.
