ANC members in KZN have been instructed to stop wearing T-shirts with the face of their preferred presidential candidate as well as singing political songs in support of any of the presidential hopefuls.

The new rules were recently given by ANC KZN chairperson Sihle Zikalala during the 73rd anniversary of the ANC youth league at Ngcedomhlophe Stadium in Mandeni.

“The ANC national executive council took a decision that all T-shirts with ANC colours and the number 17 are not ANC T-shirts. All of those T-shirts are divisive. They must be stopped in ANC activities. Whether you talk of NDZ17 (supporting Dr Nkosazane Dlamini Zuma) or CR17 (Supporting Cyril Ramaphosa), all of that does not belong in the ANC.”

Zikalala said only T-shirts with the face of Jacob Zuma or former leaders, especially those who had died are allowed. Zikalala also denied reports that the provisional executive committee appealed the Pietermaritzburg High Court judgment which rendered the 2015 provincial elective conference unlawful, without consulting the NEC.

“The NEC discussed the matter and took a decision that the officials must go and consult legal counsel and get the opinion about this case,” said Zikalala.

NEC member and police minister Fikile Mbalula said if the ANCYL will not stand for radical transformation then it does not have a purpose of existence.

He said some of the ANC members who are against Zuma are the ones who are friends with the enemies of the ANC.

“Our comrades are in bed with the enemy and the enemy is saying ‘give us Zuma and the ANC’. Our struggle is being sold by the people we trust,” said Mbalula.

He said those who complain about the Gupta family were hypocritical because they didn’t care about the 10 million unemployed young people and, although they talked about corruption, they had become wealthy from corruption.

He further condemned the political killing and promised that those who are behind it will be caught.
