Although the gunshots were heard, the festival was not interrupted.

“Police also had to fire rubber bullets to disperse a mob of 300 people who tried to enter the grounds without paying. No one was arrested.”

While this was happening, thousands of Maskandi fans were enjoying music from their favourite musicians, including Khuzani Mpungose, Mjik’jelwa Ngubane, Ali Mgube, Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele, Mzovukile “jaiva” Khanyeza and Amageza Amahle.

The last artist of the evening, Mthandeni Manqele took to the stage just after midnight and ended the show with a bang, with crowds breaking the stage barrier in order to get closer to their favourite musician.
