The alleged murder of 24-year-old Dillon Puckree from Glenhills in KwaDukuza has shaken the community and sparked outrage among those who knew him.

Puckree, who is believed to have been working as a taxi conductor was reportedly beaten up by a group of young men during a fight in Stanger Manor on Friday, September 8.

He died in hospital during the course of Sunday, September 10.

Bereaved family and friends have taken to Facebook to call for justice for the young man.

His neighbour Asheena Laven Govender said: “This morning I got the news of my neighbour Dillion in D Section Glenhills who passed away tragically after been beaten by some ruthless boys in Stanger Manor on Friday night. They took a life of someone’s child, someone’s brother and a friend to many. Nobody deserves a death in such way. May your soul rest in peace Dillion…and I do hope justice prevails.”

Another resident Nirvana Naidoo called for Stanger Manor residents to come together against crime.

Stanger Manor residents need to unite. It’s our area of residence that is getting a negative reputation. We cannot allow our once esteemed and respectable area of living to be a hive for criminal activity. It is very sad what has transpired. This is one incident we publicly have been made aware of what about the others? The SAPS and KwaDukuza Crime Prevention need to stop such activities. I also think that as a municipality that services us and which we pay rates and taxes too, they should re-look at social ills in the vicinity of the incident. “

Puckree’s funeral is to take place today, Monday, September 11.

Correction: The article previously stated that the fight took place at a car park, however due to conflicting reports this has been removed.
