An Umdloti resident reportedly lost his temper at the recently set up security stop point on Bellamont Road and lashed out at the security guard and his hut at about 10pm on Saturday night.

According to the Umdloti Community Policing Forum (CPF) member Jacqueline Herbst, the man threatened the security guard and then took on the hut.

“He drove his 4×4 onto the pavement and into the guard house.

“He then chained the hut to his tow hitch and drove off, ripping the hut off its base and towed it down the road before fleeing,” said Herbst.

She said the security vehicle monitoring point has been set up to report suspicious vehicles entering the village on Bellamont Road as part of a security initiative to help curb the increase of armed home invasions and vehicle thefts over the last few months.

“The ordeal was captured on CCTV and is now forming part of a criminal investigation after a case was opened with Durban North SAPS.

“The identity of the resident is being withheld until the investigation has been completed.”

The vehicle monitoring point is set up at the top of Bellamont Road and residents have stickers on their windscreen to show that they live in the road.
