Ice cream whizzers, waffles and more in Ballito

Spring has sprung and those warm coastal days are already rolling in which means it is time for the cool, creamy sweet treat that we all love – ice cream.

Check out these top spots to fulfill your ice cream desires:

1. Holy Cow there’s a waffle in my ice cream

If you are ready for an ice cream adventure, take a trip to Holy Cow at the Ballito Junction or at Tiffany’s Shopping Centre and try out their bubble waffle ice cream cones.

Chocoholics should try the decadent Brown Cow complete with Oreos and chocolate sprinkles or for some creamy caramel try the Beehive – a delicious treat that will take you back to your Ultramel childhood days with the custard ice cream, topped with Crunchie pieces and toffee sauce.

Price: For close to R50, this cool treat is not cheap, but the good news is that it is big enough to share

WARNING: This waffle ice cream craziness requires quick eating, no time to chat or take selfies with this sweet monster in hand.

2. Sticks n Licks factory shop

Indulge in tubs of Gino Ginelli for up to half of the usual cost.

If you have a serious ice cream craving and your purse is feeling light, pop into the Sticks and Licks Ola factory shop in Moffat Drive, Ballito.

Buy Gino Ginelli’s, Choc Pies and Magnums for days and you can even get some of their factory priced biscuits to make your own ice cream Sundae.

Price: Get a tub of Ola Rich and Creamy Vanilla, Chocolate or Rum&Raisin ice cream for R24. Their prices change and they have regular specials, so pop in for the best deals.

P.S. They also have amazing cakes, so grab some for your afternoon tea.

3. Decadent Scoop the Salt Rock way

Whether you feel like a fruity sorbet or a creamy 70% chocolate chip, Scoop has it all. Photo: Scoop

If you are an ice cream snob, Scoop at The Litchi Orchard will not disappoint. Their hand made ice cream and classy flavours will leave you wanting more, so get a scoop (or three) in a cone and take a tub home for later.

Price: At R28 a scoop, you can be sure to get home made quality ice cream.

TIP: Their Salted Caramel is an absolute must!

4.  Gelato alla Ballito

Whether you feel like having smooth Mint or fresh strawberry, La Piazza will make it happen.

Feel like getting away for a bit? Take a quick trip to Italy with a scoop of La Piazza gelato. They also have beautiful ice cream donuts in pastel colours which look like something made by a unicorn.

Price: One rather large scoop is only R20.

TIP: The peppermint crip is to die for!

5. Wonderfully whizzy treat with a kick

Milky Lane has always been a sure spot to get some good old soft serve ice cream, but now they have taken it to a new level with their Whizzers.

Think McFlurry, but on steroids. Great for a take away, these cups full of gooey goodness will leave you wanting more.

Try the Millionaires Shortbread, which tastes like it might have a shot of Amarula swirled into the soft serve combined with some chocolate sauce and bits of Millionaires Shortbread floating in between.

Price: This dreamy ice cream will cost you from R27,90 for a Vanilla & Crumble Waffle to R39,90 for the Banana & Bar One.
