A whole new world of possibilities has opened for students at Umfolozi TVET College in Mandeni.

This is after their new Pulp and Paper Centre for Excellence was opened last week.

The college aims to provide relevant programmes to students, allowing them to study in their chosen field while at the same time having the opportunity to get hands-on experience through workplace opportunities and internships.

The new centre will allow students to gain knowledge and proficiency in the pulp and paper fields and give them the skills and education necessary to thrive in SA’s flourishing paper industry.

“We get about 300 enrolments in the pulp and paper courses every semester,” said the College’s Elsie du Toit.

“We are proud to say that over 70% of these students now have jobs in the paper industry and hope the new centre will help us push that number even higher.”

The new centre was launched with much fanfare as representatives from the paper industry, Umfolozi TVET College, the Paper Recycling Association, the Fibre Processing and Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority (FP&M Seta) and the Paper Manufacturers Association of SA (PAMSA) looked on.
