Ballito’s Dzemil aims for Olympics

Dzemil Muric is SKISA's number one ranked Junior fighter.

Shotokan Karate International South Africa’s (SKISA) number one ranked Junior fighter Dzemil Muric is aiming high in pursuit of a world title.

The top ranked Protea athlete has been selected as part of team South Africa to fight for the Rainbow Nation at the forthcoming cadet and Junior World Karate Federation (WKF) World cup in Spain next month.

Muric, who demolished all opposition at the recent Karate South Africa (KSA) Elite championships in Durban, expressed his delight upon hearing of the news that he was selected for team South Africa to do battle at the world cup in Spain.

“It was always my dream to fight in a world cup, now my dream has come true” said the very delighted Ashton International College pupil.

Protea head coach Brando Pillay Shihan, who mentors the North Coast karate superstar, paid glowing tribute to Muric upon hearing of his selection.

“Provided he stays focused, Dzemil has the potential to be crowned world champion very soon,” said Shihan Brando, who serves as current Technical convener of KSA. Sonny Pillay Hanshi, President of KSA, has been invited to address the WKF world congress in Spain and was full of praise for the KSA multiple title holder, saying the current outstanding performance of young karate champions such as Muric augurs well for the future of KSA athletes making it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“KSA champions like Dzemil and others have an excellent chance of fighting on the Olympic stage,” said the karate legend.
