A passion for sport

When you have a passion for sport, you find yourself filling more and more of your life with it.

This is the case for Hennie Swart, the Great Railroad Brewing Company Dolphins’ flyhalf and sports coordinator/teacher at Darnall Primary.

Standing slightly over six feet, the 29-year-old was born in Middleburg but lived in Richard’s Bay for much of his schooling years.

He attended Glenwood High School and matriculated in 2007.

“One of my best memories will always be beating Grey College in 2006 – we are still the only Glenwood team to have done so,” Swart said.

Swart, who can also play centre or fullback, has been with the Dolphins for two seasons.

“Unfortunately, I have been somewhat injury-ridden during this time, having hurt my ankle in 2016 and my shoulder earlier this year.”

Swart said the worst injury he had experienced was a broken wrist in 2006 while playing in England at the John Fisher Sports Academy.

“I also had a shoulder operation in 2009 which still gives me problems.”

Swart is a huge WP fan, so it will come as no surprise that Juan de Jongh is his favourite player.

“He is fast, elusive and has a good step – exactly what you want from a number 13.”

He told The Courier it was the small technicalities of the game he enjoyed most and laughingly added that when it comes to training, he tries to do as little as possible.
