Nine things to do on the Coast this weekend

Although visiting our beautiful beaches on the North Coast is a definite must on the weekends, did you know that there are a number of exciting events on the go in and around the Dolphin Coast?

Saturday, August 12

  • Visit the Saturday Car Boot Sale in Ballito for locally made products, knick-knacks, pancakes and second hand items at great prices. Go to the open ground on the corner of Simbithi and Leonora Drive (next to the Ballito clinic). Call 083 780 1953 or email [email protected]


  • Head down to Sugar Rush Park every Saturday for the Sugar Rush Market from 7.30-noon. Browse through fresh, home made, hand made, local and organically produced products to support our local growing and developing area. Contact Gill at [email protected]



  • SA’s biggest craft brew specTAPular is heading to the golden coast with a craft brew theatre of excellence at Kings Park Stadium. You voted for the beers, now come enjoy the freshest and finest from across SA. Festival goers will be able to enjoy over 200 of our countries finest brews alongside a stellar lineup of top SA bands, Shortstraw, Majozi, Qadasi and King Pies. Entry fee is R130 online which includes a free glass of your choice when booking, glasses are 1st come 1st serve online as they do sell out. On the day passes are subject to availability at R150.



  • Every Saturday morning Forest Hills German Shepherd Club Ballito holds dog training for all breeds at Townsend park, Ballito. Times are as follows: 8am advanced; 9.45am beginners. Contact chairperson Scott Farlam on 082 355 4636.


  • The Litchi Orchard Farmers Market is on the second Saturday every month. A feast of local produce and creativity will be on show. Live entertainment sets the mood and crafts are also on sale. Fun for the whole family! Contact The Litchi Orchard at 032-5255118.



  • Ballito Gesinskerk (Dutch Reformed Church) is hosting their annual Potjiekos Fête. The kids will enjoy the tombola and games while adults can relax in the tea garden. There will be lovely eats to buy and potjiekos tickets can be purchased on the day. R50 for a full portion and R30 for a half portion. Contact Leonie at 032-9461198 before 1pm for more info. All proceeds will go towards Tuinsig Home for the elderly.


  • North Coast Artists welcome Kim Pereira as their demo guest artist for their August meeting. This will be at 9am in the Hall of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 2 Newport Avenue, Glenashley. Kim is an oil painter who has exhibited her work at Artspace, KZN Gallery, Bellvue Gallery, Longmynd Gallery and The Gallery in Westville. As always the public are invited to attend for a nominal fee of R40 which includes tea and refreshments.



  • SVET Women’s Forum in association with the Shree Veeraboga Emperumal Temple will host a Women’s Day Celebration at the Shree Veeraboga Cultural Centre in Tongaat, from 2pm to 4pm. The guest of honour is KwaDukuza deputy mayor Dolly Govender. Call Savy Govender 032-9451496.
