According to an anonymous source in the area, a task team from the municipality is meeting the residents at the Sofaya ground.

“The people want to meet the mayor but he is apparently out of the country. Therefore, the delegation is going to meet with the protesters. Hopefully they will accept the date proposed by the municipal team for a formal meeting.”

KwaDukuza knowledge and communications officer Sphelelo Ngobese said they had deployed a task team lead by members of council to launch a probe into the unrest.

“At this stage, we have no grounds to pronounce on the matter, however, we will update media on the latest findings.

“We will do whatever we can to ensure that stability is restored in that area,” said Ngobese.
