Darnall Secondary debate star wins night of luxury

Snenhlanhla Mdamali debating with confidence in Groutville.

Twenty-one-year-old Snenhlanhla Mdamali from Zamani Township will spend her first night in luxury five star hotel, thanks to her gift of the gab.

The confident young woman won a debating competition hosted by the Twelve Apostles Church in Christ in Groutville this past weekend.

First prize was a night of luxury accommodation.

“I cannot wait for the day to come, I am so excited. All I think of is how it would feel to sleep in a hotel!” said Mdamali.

She will be taking her mother, Makhosi Mdamali, and said it would be an amazing experience for them to share.

Mdamali is a grade 11 pupil at Darnall Secondary School and it was her first time debating in front of a large audience.

“I was so scared, however I managed to gain confidence throughout the debate.”

Debating against 11 other young people, Mdamali tackled topics such as whether the television makes people lazy and violent, the value of tertiary education and whether voting is still a relevent method of conducting elections.

Mdamali’s father died when she was 13 and life has not been easy for her mother as a single parent.

“My mother has been working hard to be a good parent to me and this opportunity to bless her in return is something I will never forget,” she said.
