Breaking News: Petrol bomb flung into school mini-bus

The Stanger Training School mini-bus smouldering after a petrol bomb was hurled through its open window.

A petrol bomb was reportedly flung through an open window of a Stanger school mini-bus which exploded in the bus after the driver and two passengers managed to flee to safety at about 8.30am this morning.

The Stanger Training Centre mini-bus was travelling along the Doornkop road near Stanger when occupants of a white Toyota Corolla hurled a petrol bomb through an open window while driving.

The driver and two training centre staff members immediately abandoned the bus which then exploded.

Police at the scene confirmed the incident is related to taxi violence.

There is a longstanding dispute between the Maphumulo Taxi Association and Stanger Taxi Association the over the rights to routes in the area, which has resulted in a number of violent crimes.

The two associations and the department of transport are currently locked in negotiations to try and resolve the ongoing dispute.

Our reporters on the scene said the driver and two passengers have been sent to Stanger Hospital for trauma counselling.

The bus normally transports about 20 children to school and it was fortunate that this morning the only passengers were the two staff members.

Police at the scene said this is the third time the training centre’s bus had bee targeted.

More to follow.
