Crawford celebrates 138 subject A’s at annual valediction

Crawford College North Coast celebrated their matrics at their valedictory last week.

Crawford College North Coast Matrics were celebrated at the annual valediction recently where they made the school proud with their 138 subject A’s achieved in their internationally bench-marked VCAA examinations.

Moutloatsi Setlogelo was awarded the bronze medal for being third in Grade 12, as well as a gold certificate for aggregate and a gold medal for information technology with an aggregate of 89.56%.

He received silver medals for Life Orientation, Mathematics and Advanced Programme Mathematics, as well as a bronze medal for Physical Sciences.

He was also awarded full colours for academics and a certificate for distinctions in English, Mathematics, Engineering Graphics & Design, Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Life Orientation and Advanced Programme Mathematics.

Moutloatsi, affectionately known as Milo, joined the Crawford family in 2013 and plans to study a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics) at UCT next year.

The keen guitar player will be writing his SAT’s next year in the hope of achieving his dream of attending MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Viashna Hansraj has been at Crawford since 2014 and was the recipient of the silver medal for coming second in Grade 12. She was awarded a gold certificate for aggregate, a gold medal for Business Studies, a silver medal for Accounting and a bronze medal for Advanced Programme Mathematics.

Crawford’s top three Matrics, Moutloatsi Setlogelo – third in Grade 12 with 88.08%, Wendy Buvana – first with 88.91% and Viashna Hansraj – second with 88.74%.

She was also presented with her full colours for academics and chess and a certificate for distinctions in English, Mathematics, Accounting, Business Studies, Physical Sciences, Life Orientation and Advanced Programme Mathematics.

She plans to become a Chartered Accountant and has been accepted to study a Bachelor of Accounting Science at Wits University. She has also signed a contract with Deloitte & Touche for her articles.

Her passions include art, reading and, above all, karate. Viashna has been practicing karate since 2008 and has represented SA in the National Karate team, but had to abandon her karate this year due to an injury.

Wendy Buvana was awarded the gold medal for first in Grade 12. She was awarded a gold certificate for aggregate, as well as gold medals for Accounting & Physical Sciences, silver medals for Business Studies and Life Sciences and a bronze medal for Mathematics.

She also received her full colours for Academics and a certificate for distinctions in English, Mathematics, Accounting, Business Studies, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Orientation and Advanced Programme Mathematics.

She lives in Maputo, Mozambique and has been a boarder at Crawford North Coast since 2014. She plans to study a degree in medicine, specializing in neurosurgery to one day help those less fortunate.

Her dream is to study her degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and her post-graduate degree at Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Wendy said all she has achieved is through her faith. Her hobbies include dancing and photography and she was also an integral member of the first team soccer.

The recipients of Special Awards included: Best Effort – Wendy Buvana; Good Character – Adele Botha; Ambassadorship – Kelly Olivier; Achiever – Anri Loots; Good Fellowship – Jessica Broom; Sportsperson – Kaylee Nel; Sportsmanship (male) – Nicholas White; Sportsmanship (female) – Kelly Olivier.
