Residents of Salt Rock and Ballito will have the opportunity to make a difference in their area by joining their respective ward committees.
Ward committee elections for Ward 6 (Ballito) and Ward 22 (Salt Rock) will be held next week Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ward committees provide a vital link between ward councillors, the community and the municipality.
Committee members serve as the eyes and ears of the ward and take on the responsibility of reporting problems such as streetlights and potholes to the councillor as well as relaying feedback to the community.
DA Salt Rock councillor Malcolm Hubner, said it was important for people who wanted to have a say and who are passionate about their community to run for the elections.
There are currently five positions available for Ward 22 and the election will take place next Tuesday, October 9, at 6pm at the Salt Rock library.
“Each committee member sits on a different portfolio which ranges from environmental to infrastructure and so on.
“The ward committee is to be made up of 10 members, but the five who were previously elected have resigned for personal reasons.
“Once we elect new members, we plan to reshuffle the portfolios.
“The members are the people on the ground and their role is a vital function for what brings about change.”
Hubner said the requirement for members was that they be residents in the ward they are elected in and that they attend a ward committee meeting once a month where they are expected to submit a feedback report.
Ballito councillor Tammy Colley said she also had five vacant positions. Her committee election will take place on Wednesday, October 10 at the Ballito Library at 6pm.
