Countless brides have entered and hundreds of fans voted for the North Coast Courier Bride of the Year 2018, but only one blushing bride won: congratulations Ronnel Govender.
After being friends for 18 years and dating since 2016, Ronnel married her beau Keveshen at the Tongaat Town Hall on December 16, 2017.
“I knew he was the one, but I was still surprised when he got down on one knee at an intimate family gathering and popped the question. He is such a romantic,” said Ronnel, who is a credit controller at Netcare Alberlito Hospital and lives in Tongaat with her husband’s family.
Having known each other for more than half their lives, the two lovebirds did not waste any time to get to their ‘I do’s’.
“We pulled off a traditional Indian wedding with 600 guests without a wedding planner!
“It was stressful, but my husband was really hands on and made sure everything was perfect for me,” said the 28-year-old Ronnel.
“The celebrations started the Monday before the wedding. It was a crazy time – it was just food, colours, make up, jewelry and many different saris. I loved every minute, but we were exhausted afterwards.”
They kept their honeymoon local, as they specifically wanted to get married in December when all the family from Johannesburg could come to Durban.
“Family is very important to us and we loved being able to spend so much time with everyone.”
Ronnel said her best advice for soon-to-be brides is to just enjoy every minute of the wedding.
“I am a perfectionist, but I decided to just go with the flow and have fun, instead of focusing on the small things and stressing about what went wrong.”
Ronnel and Keveshen have won a stunning two-night luxury getaway at Rhino River Lodge, including two game drives and three meals daily valued at R8600.
Rhino River Lodge is a Big 5 safari lodge in KZN situated along the shore of the Msunduze River in the southern section of the Zululand Rhino Reserve, 30kms north of the Hluhluwe Game Reserve.
The Bride of the Year will also be able to frame her wedding day stylishly with a PrintWild A4 white contemporary framed print, valued at R766 and get some extra pampering with a Filorga skin peel from Salon Amika valued at R400.
The runner-up Bride of the Year 2018 is Serina Moodley, who will also be spoiled with a two-night mid-week stay at the unique Antbear Lodge in the Drakensberg including a three-course dinner and breakfast for two people valued at R7000 (offer valid for six months, subject to availability, excluding public holidays).
