Do you know your hormone profile?

Everyone knows how to lose weight: eat less, exercise more and drop a dress size.

If that does not work, eat even less and exercise even more, right?

The public perception that a ‘fat’ girl is simply too lazy and greedy to succeed is a cruel judgement by those who have never experienced a metabolism gone awry.

The traditional weight loss model ignores the powerful effect of hormones.

A low-fat calorie restricted diet with a high intensity workout regime can cause an adrenal (high stress) profiled person to gain weight!

Therefore it is important to know your hormone profile in order to unlock your metabolic furnace.

Dr. Eric Berg initiated the hormone-based diet profiles almost thirty years ago.

His work now forms the basis for weight loss programmes worldwide where clients suffer from weight loss resistance.

1. The Adrenal Type

Weight gain can be sudden, occurring six months to a year after a stress event (illness or death of a loved one, job loss, divorce etc.) Cortisol is the acting hormone working to protect vital organs from perceived danger by depositing fat over the midsection. Weight loss requires a high fat diet (full fat dairy and omega oils) with gentle exercise such as Yoga or Pilates.

2. Liver Type

The belly protrudes in a tight ball which is not actually ‘fat’ but fluid within the interstitial space. The liver is not able to detoxify as it needs to. Muscles atrophy in other body parts so the person may lose weight even as the belly expands.

3. Ovary Type

The ‘pear’ shaped woman accumulates weight in the lower belly, hips and thighs. Elevated Estrogen levels create fat stores. A diet high in phytonutrients and strength training which stimulates testosterone production is needed.

4. Thyroid Type

A slow, steady increase in weight over the whole body. The thyroid produces adequate T4 but conversion from T4 to T3 is blocked in the liver, resulting in symptoms of an underactive thyroid.

‘Ovary Type’ women can become ‘Thyroid Type’ after a second or third pregnancy.
