WATCH: Teamwork leads to quick arrest at Ballito Junction

K9 units escort the suspect out of the bush after tracking and finding him.

The quick response and teamwork of security agencies, police and the Ilembe Cluster Task Team led to the apprehension of a man who allegedly attempted to hold up a shop in the Ballito Junction this morning.

According to Junction CEO Geraldine Jorgensen, around 10am this morning an armed man entered the Blue Bay furniture shop on level two, producing a handgun and holding the store’s employees up.

“One of the staff members managed to hit the panic button and mall security came running,” said Jorgensen.

The robber fled into the parking and out of the mall, running into the dense bush below the Junction.

Armed response forces and police rapidly converged on the area, surrounding the patch of bush until K9 units were able to locate the man and bring him into custody.

Your safety is their concern. Just a few of the police, security personnel, K9 handlers and members of the Ilembe Cluster Task Team who helped to apprehend the man believed to have attempted to rob a store in the Junction this morning.
