Ballito’s Zen Park back in order

BNW committee members Brett Moran and Morne Steffens erecting new signage at the Ballito Zen Park.

Showing that more can be achieved when efforts are combined, the Ballito Neighborhood Watch (BNW) joined forced with KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) to revamp Ballito’s Zen Park.

BNW chairperson Candice Henderson said the park was severely neglected and littered.

After numerous complaints from residents, the organisation arranged with KDM to clear the area and restore the park to its original neatness. This goal was achieved within a week.

“We contacted Che Gopi from KDM’s park and gardens department. A contractor was then nominated to maintain the park.

“It took a week to neaten the park and within two weeks the park has been cleared out.

“Another KDM employee Phumza Mbongo, supported the contractor with collection and dumping of the offcuts, which is currently a very stretched municipal service as only one of three ground maintenance trucks for Ballito have been in working order for the last eight months.”

Along with a fresh new look, a signboard for the park had also been reviewed and approved.

“Due to the lengthy process of the municipal supply chain, as well as uncertainty on whether funding for the sign is currently readily available, BNW came on board to pay for the signboard.”

The BNW committee will soon erect signboards in Townsend Park, Hilary Drive Park and Dolphin Crescent Skate Park.

“We are just getting approval on the signboard content from KDM parks and gardens and these will be fabricated and installed at BNW’s expense,” said Henderson.
