Relatives of the child (9) who was believed to have been grazed by a bullet during a house robbery in La Mercy earlier today said that x-rays revealed that a bullet had, in fact, been lodged in the child’s back.
The boy’s uncle, who asked not to be named to protect the child’s identity, said he would undergo surgery later tonight.
“We are not medical professionals but he was fully responsive and is still in a stable condition. His parents rushed him to hospital because they could not wait for emergency services to get there.
“Unexpectedly, the x-ray showed that the bullet went through his abdomen and is located near his back. He is not in a critical state as it is being suggested by some reports.”
This afternoon five armed robbers in a red Golf 5 with an NT registration approached the house in Eden Rose Walk which also runs as a school.
The men gained access to the house under the pretext of getting information about admission to the school.
Once they were inside they pulled out their firearms.
The five people in the house, two adults and three children, locked themselves in a room and screamed for help.
As the robbers were making their getaway they opened fire on the house, injuring the boy.
