KwaDukuza Municipality’s Grade A plan

Ahead of the new year, KwaDukuza municipality plans to build a second motor vehicle testing centre so residents can obtain all licence codes without leaving the area.

The current testing centre in Stanger, Ward 16 offers learner and vehicle testing for light and heavy motor vehicles and was recently upgraded to offer motorcycle driver’s licences.

The facility does not offer licences for Code C for buses and goods vehicles or Code EC for vehicles with two or more sections.

The municipality is working on securing land next to the KwaDukuza SAPS, along with the R102 for the facility which would cost about R6 million for 8 hectares of land.

The plan for the new centre is welcomed by some residents who say they are forced to travel to Verulam or other areas for the licence requirements.

“I own a logistics company and I require my staff to have a Code EC licence. It will make things easier when we do not have to travel out of the area to drop them off and pick them up. KwaDukuza is growing and the facilities should grow too,” said business owner Rajen Naidu.

Once complete, the project is set to include a Grade A testing centre which allows testing for all codes, a weighbridge, vehicle pound and administration offices.
