A young man was lucky to survive a rock throwing incident while he was travelling on the N2 north bound last night at about 10.30pm.

The 26-year-old Umhlali resident was passing underneath the first bridge after the Tongaat toll plaza going north towards Ballito when a large rock hit his windscreen.

This is the bridge before the one where two children recently lost their lives due to a rock throwing attack.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the rock luckily hit the passenger side of the windscreen.

“The large rock hit the driver on his left shoulder, causing some bruising and swelling. He was treated by paramedics and transported to hospital,”said Herbst.

A petition to ‘Stop random bridge violence in South Africa’ has also been doing the rounds. In less than a week it has already received 1 134 signatures.

Correction: The original article stated that the accident happened on the same bridge as the previous rock throwing incident where two children lost their lives, however this has been corrected as it was the bridge further south.
