Ashton’s Eloise makes top one percent!

Eloise Wilton completed her matric year with nine distinctions.

Eloise Wilton has been a high-flyer since day one and quickly made a name for herself as a highly dedicated and committed student at Ashton International College when her family moved from Johannesburg to Salt Rock in 2014.

“Moving from the fast paced Johannesburg to the more laid back North Coast has been a really enjoyable lifestyle change,” said Wilton, who was also the 2017 head girl at Ashton.

She was awarded academic full colours in Form three and academic honours for Form four and five for maintaining an average of 80% and above.

Eloise was awarded Dux 2017 and was the top achiever with seven distinctions in her trial examinations. Her average of 94,34% also earned her the prestigious white cum laude blazer as she maintained an average of 90% and above throughout her school career at Ashton.

She mastered the following nine subjects: English home language; Afrikaans first additional language; mathematics; advanced programme mathematics; accounting; history; business studies; physical sciences and life orientation.

Her family moved to Cape Town last month and she will be starting her Bachelor of Business Science specialising in finance and accounting at the University of Cape Town this year.

“I plan to complete my CA in accounting. I considered studying medicine as my dad, Nick, is a doctor, but I prefer numbers.”

When Eloise is not studying, she plays netball and tennis, socialises with friends and collects cacti.

“I am also always reading a book. Currently I am reading Exit West by Mohsin Hamid, who also wrote The Reluctant Fundamentalist.”

She said while she enjoyed school, the last five years have been long and that she is excited to be finished and to move on to university.

Ashton Senior College head Jenny van Buuren was beaming with pride and joy over the IEB results, with Eloise being a real celebration.

“Eloise’ incredible results placed her in the top 0,46% of all results on the Outstanding Achievement List – and this is certainly the highlight in the young history of this school. Alongside Eloise we had five other students placed in the top 1% of some of their subjects,” said van Buuren.

“I am so incredibly proud of the 2017 group of matric students who produced a brilliant set of results in the challenging IEB final examinations cementing Ashton’s Academic record with another 100% pass rate with a 96,8% Bachelor Degree (University Exemption), an increase of 3,85% on 2016.

“As Senior College Head for the first year, these students have made me realise why teaching was always my passion. 63 students wrote the IEB finals with 61 passing with a bachelor degree and two with a diplomas pass, which still qualifies them to study at a tertiary institution.”

She said their staff are to be congratulated for helping the pupils achieve these top results.

“I believe the weekly support lessons and commitment of our staff giving selflessly of their time during holidays and weekends, resulted in the phenomenal improvement on their trial and year marks,” said Van Buuren.
