UPDATE: Boyfriend arrested over Desainagar bodies

The boyfriend of a woman and child (5) who were found buried in a shallow grave in Desainagar, Tongaat has been taken into custody regarding the incident.

Tongaat Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) spokesperson Nazir Sadak said the man was arrested in Jozini, in northern Zululand.

He had apparently identified the bodies and pointed out a murder weapon but had not yet been formally charged at the time of going to print.

“It is believed that the woman and child were staying with the boyfriend for the holidays. They were set to return home to the child’s father in KwaDukuza when there was an altercation,” said Sadak.

The grusome discovery that sent shock waves through the quiet suburb came about after a passerby spotted a trail of blood on a pathway and informed SAPS two weeks ago.

Sadak said the bodies were found in Park Avenue Road.

“CERT together with Tongaat SAPS found the shallow grave opposite Shalimar Gardens flats in abushy area. A passerby noticed blood on the pathway and informed SAPS. We first discovered the adult and as we dug further we discovered the child buried under her,” he said.

Both the woman and child sustained blunt force injuries to the head.
